Skoda Elroq: What will the competition offer?

Skoda Elroq: What will the competition offer?

Skoda has been incredibly successful in the UK and it’s not hard to see why. Their cars offer a lot of practicality and space in a very sensible and sophisticated package.

The new Elroq is the brand stepping into the busy world of electric SUVs and will be the latest EV in the company’s model range, alongside the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe.

With a variety of powertrains on offer and a reasonable electric driving range of up to 360 miles on a single charge, this new Skoda could be the perfect car for environmentally conscious families.

But if you think the new Skoda is a bit of a sober choice, there are plenty of alternatives that might better suit your needs. We take a closer look at some of Elroq’s competitors.

Volkswagen ID.3

It may be built on the same MEB architectural platform as the Skoda, but the ID.3 has been around long enough to earn a reputation as a safe and sensible choice for those looking for a practical and easy-to-live-with EV.

There’s also a wide variety of permutations for performance buyers, including the hot GTX model. For most people, however, the standard car is good enough, with a choice of 58kWh or 77kWh battery packs available with claimed ranges between 261 miles and 347 miles. The ID.3 may not be the most dazzling driver, but it’s still a good all-around EV that offers plenty of advantages when it comes to the electric motor.

Peugeot E-3008

The recently launched E-3008 comes with a bold new exterior and interior look while offering one of the best electric driving ranges in its class.

It’s available with three different electric powertrain options, including two- and four-wheel-drive models. This big Peugeot can cover a claimed range of 326 miles, or there will be a long-range model coming soon that will offer 435 miles of range.

The interior has a very futuristic feel and comes with Peugeot’s i-Cockpit instrument cluster and i-toggle shortcut bar that allows the driver to scroll through shortcut menus to make it easier to navigate the infotainment screen on the go. The driving experience may be bland and boring, but there’s no denying that the impressive electric range alone can draw buyers into the Skoda’s range of just 230 miles on a single charge.

Renault Landscape

One of the best EVs on sale today is Renault’s Scenic SUV. The reason behind its success has to do with its excellent driving experience as it manages to be engaging, quiet and comfortable. The interior, meanwhile, is cavernous with plenty of storage space. It’s also light and airy in the cabin, and has an excellent real-world electric driving range of almost 380 miles.

It also looks good and has a feature that allows the driver to program different driver assistance settings that they want to change or turn off. Then, with a double tap of a button, everything adapts to the driver’s preferences.

Kia NiroEV

The Kia Niro EV is now in its second generation and has become one of the best EVs on sale to date. First, it comes with the firm’s seven-year or 100,000-mile warranty, meaning owners have peace of mind. It’s also perfect for families, with a well-bolted cabin, plenty of standard equipment and an impressive 475 liters of boot space.

What’s more, the Niro’s claimed range is up to 275 miles, which is more than acceptable for most; Additionally, fast charging allows the car to be fully charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 43 minutes.

Ford Explorer

Ford is no stranger to bringing back well-known nameplates on its cars, and the Explorer is one of the latest models to rejoin the range. Under the skin, it sits on the same MEB platform as the Elroq and Volkswagen ID.4.

The Explorer is a roomy and good-looking SUV that also offers a good driving experience as well as an electric range of up to 374 miles for the entry-level rear-wheel-drive version. Different battery sizes are also offered, with the larger 79kWh and the all-wheel drive version able to be charged at speeds of 185kW, allowing the car to go from 10 to 80 per cent in just 26 minutes.
