4 killed in crashes in Edgefield, Bamberg, Aiken and Orangeburg this week

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – Four people died in crashes this week in four different South Carolina counties, authorities told us Wednesday.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of a 1972 Chevy sedan was traveling southbound on West Five Notches Road when he left the roadway and struck a tree on Oct. 1.

Authorities said they arrived at the scene near Feagin Drive, five miles south of Edgefield, at 8:02 p.m.

It was determined that the driver died at the scene.

Bamberg

A pedestrian died in an accident that occurred in the Bamberg district on Tuesday afternoon.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers, the crash happened at US 21 at SC 61 at 1:22 p.m.

Troopers said a 2020 Toyota Corolla was heading west on SC 61 and a tractor trailer was heading north on US 21.

Police said the driver of the Corolla collided with the tractor trailer, which then hit the pedestrian.

According to police, the injured pedestrian died at the scene.

The drivers of the Corolla and the tractor trailer were injured and taken to area hospitals.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Aiken

A 34-year-old man died Tuesday morning when he left the highway and crashed into a tree in Aiken County, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities say they responded to a single-vehicle crash at 5:20 a.m. Oct. 1 on Old Barnwell Road near Candlewood Road, six miles east of Aiken.

According to officers, the sole occupant of the Ford Focus was traveling south on Barnwell when it went off the road and crashed into a tree.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating a single vehicle that claimed the life of a Williston man.

At 5:44 a.m., Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables was called to Old Barnwell Road near Candlewood Road for a single-vehicle crash.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 34-year-old Trevor Davis, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:10 a.m. from injuries sustained in the crash, Ables said.

Police Department and Highways teams continue the investigation. Toxicology analyzes are awaited.

orangeburg

Less than 24 hours ago, a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle on a highway in Orangeburg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

On Sept. 30, officers responded to a crash on U.S. 601 at Magnolia Avenue, about a mile north of Orangeburg, at 9:28 p.m., authorities said.

According to authorities, the sole occupant of a 2019 Hyundai Sonata was traveling southbound on US 601 when it struck a pedestrian traveling westbound on US 601.

The driver was transported to a local hospital, authorities said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
