The upright telescopic rod and optional arms are not made of carbon fiber but are manufactured from aerospace-grade magnesium alloy. For the money, this is a great choice because the material is very strong but very lightweight and cheaper to produce than carbon fiber. The net result is that the most basic CDMS-V kit, which includes just the table clamp and center post along with the ball head, retails for just $35 / £27. Next up on the ladder is the CDMS-1A kit for $50/£39, which includes the same post and a single arm. The top-end CDMS-2A kit with center post and dual arms (allowing for articulation) costs $60 / £47.
