Reisinger Scores Career Best at Butler Invitational

The Loyola women’s golf team traveled to Indianapolis, IN, for the Butler Invitational hosted by Butler University from September 30 to October 1 and finished ninth out of 17 teams.

The Ramblers finished the 54-hole tournament with a total of 891 strokes (305-290-296). Youngstown State University took first place in the tournament with 863 hits (284-290-289).

Individually, the tournament ended in a tie between Youngstown State sophomore Neeranuch Prajunpanich and Butler University junior Kelli Scheck with a total of 211 points. Scheck came out on top after the play-off against Prajunpanich.

Ramblers fourth-year Cate Reisinger posted a career-best finish of sixth at 216 (73-69-74). His second round score was also the lowest scoring round of his college career.

Head coach Brandy Johnston said Reisinger’s performance during the tournament was a source of positive momentum moving forward.

“Cate had another strong performance this week,” Johnston said. “He plays with great confidence on the green field and this is reflected in his scores. I can’t wait to see what he can do in our home tournament next week.”

First-year Rambler Grace Hui finished the tournament in a tie for 40th place, while sophomore Grace Durkin finished in 48th place with a total of 226 (76-75-75) points. One stroke behind Durkin, fourth-grader Jolie Brochu placed 49th with a 227-stroke total (79-74-74).

Rounding out Loyola was sophomore Cassie Psuik, who finished the day with a total of 230 (77-77-76) points and a tie for 59th place.

Competing individually, freshman Madison Haugen placed 71st with 235 (74-80-81) points.

Johnston said the team’s performance at the start of the tournament limited their success, but praised the team’s ability to bounce back after the first round.

“Overall, I felt like we did a lot of good things the last two days,” Johnston said. “We struggled on the back nine in the opening round and that hurt us in the overall standings, but we bounced back in the second round with our best team score of the season. We scrambled and saved some pars today which were great to see.”

The Ramblers will next host the Loyola Parkinson Family Invitational on October 7-8. The tournament will take place at Merit Club, a private course in Libertyville, IL.
