Calhoun Community College offers free resources for cybersecurity awareness

DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) – Calhoun Community College is offering free educational resources and events for Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

The offerings are part of a nationwide initiative led by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency to educate individuals about the importance of cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity awareness is vital, said Jeremy Blevins, an instructor at Calhoun Community College.

“Our world is becoming extremely fast and technical every day; Cyber security is no longer just a concern for businesses. Ordinary people are at risk when they choose not-so-strong passwords for online shopping accounts or email logins, aren’t educated on the importance of enabling multi-factor authentication, or even use public Wi-Fi,” Blevins said. “Any of these actions , can make an individual vulnerable to a cyber attack, which can take years to resolve.”
