Not your mom’s hair product review

Not your mom’s hair product review

When I go to the hairdresser and the stylist asks me what my hair goals are, I have only one answer: more volume, please! As someone with long, thick, straight hair, applying any lift to my loose, heavy curls usually requires a professional hand. Often this looks like a lot of maneuvering with a round brush and hair dryer I don’t think I’m coordinated enough to recreate it at home. Luckily I found the volumizer hair care Products from the Not Your Mother’s Plump For Joy collection allowed me to accomplish the gravity-defying lift on my own. (The proof is in the before-and-after photos below.) And at $15 or less per item, it’s much more affordable than going in for a blowout.

I’ve tried many unique shampoo formulas, from shampoo bars to powders, but this was the first foaming shampoo I tested. It comes out like a foam, cleans the hair with a weightless foam and a fruity orange-mango scent.

Just like the shampoo, Plump for Joy conditioner comes out in a foam, so you don’t have to worry about it weighing down your curls. It’s not the most nourishing conditioner I’ve tried, so I generally only use this when I want maximum volume.

This medium hold mousse is the first styling step in the series and forms the foundation for your full hair look. A little goes a long way and it performs as well as more expensive foams I’ve tried.

I will apply this root powder after blow drying my hair. It provides some grip which helps lift the hair from the root. Just one or two pumps are enough for each section, and when you apply it to the hair and roots, it goes completely invisible, even on my black hair.

To complete the voluminous look, this powerful hair spray ensures every strand stays in place. It helps me tame flyaways, resist moisture, and keep body in my hair.

For second-day hair, or on days when I don’t want to go through the full volumizing hair routine, this spray provides just enough lift to make a difference.

A big part of being an editor is going to meetings with advertisers who will walk you through their clients’ offerings and recommend products based on what you’re looking for; This is how I came across the Plump For Joy collection. To be honest, I didn’t expect to like every product in the collection. I tried others volumizing hair products with little success.

I started with shampoo and conditioner and enjoyed the novelty of the mousse formula, so the next time I did my hair, I tried the mousse as well. I added each new product to my routine one by one, and each time I saw that the volume of my hair increased.

Each product in the line is priced at $15 or less; This means you can try one of the stylers or mix and match and still get it for under $25. For the impressive volume they bring, you really can’t beat the value. Additionally, the formulas are vegan, not tested on animals, and considered “clean” (does not contain sulfate and paraben).

While using the entire range will definitely yield the best results, you can completely avoid adding a base product or two to add vibrancy to your hair. In this case, I recommend starting with Plump For Joy Volumizing Mousse and Plump For Joy Instant Root Boost to get the most bang for your buck. The mousse provides a visible lifting effect when you apply it to damp hair and then blow dry it. I also start blow drying by holding it upside down so gravity works on my hair and gives it as much volume as possible.

Once my hair is dry, I’ll apply a few pumps of Instant Root Boost, which really boosts hair recovery. The powder is applied with a nozzle that allows you to reach the root directly and then simply massage until it becomes invisible. It adds a sort of bold feel to the hair to help maintain its hold. I had to get used to it, but the return on volume was worth it. I can even go a second day with my blowout at home after styling with Root Boost. Despite being sandy, my hair was still flexible enough to brush, and a gentle shake instantly revived volume.

If you are looking for a product that will add lift and fullness, then I would go for Plump For Joy Thickening Hair Lifter. Similar to Root Boost, it adds hold to hair to boost volume. However, unlike Root Boost, it helps create a thickening effect on thin strands and can be applied to any part of the hair. That’s why I love this product, especially on second-day unstyled hair, so I can create volume in my dry curls without having to do a full blow-dry routine.

It is worth noting that this line also contains a dry shampoobut I don’t usually use one in my routine, so I left it out of this review. But according to customer reviews Plum For Joy Bodybuilding Dry Shampoo It looks just as great as the rest of the series.

As far as pharmacy beauty products gone, these have become some of my favorites. You can’t beat the results for such an affordable price.
