Frank Lampard says Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba need to win major trophies with Arsenal to compare with the great centre-back partnerships of the Premier League era.

Gabriel and Saliba have played a key role in Arsenal’s rise under Mikel Arteta over the last two seasons and both players were rewarded with a place in the PFA Team of the Year following outstanding campaigns last season.

This season, Gabriel and Saliba picked up where they left off; The Gunners have conceded just five goals in their first six league games and the pair are widely regarded as the best centre-back partnership in English football.

This has led to comparisons between Gabriel and Saliba and many legendary centre-back partnerships of yesteryear. Rio Ferdinand And Nemanja Vidicand Arsenal’s own Tony Adams And Martin Keown.

They are mentioned in the same breath as iconic former Chelsea duo John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho, who won multiple trophies during their time together at Stamford Bridge.

But former Chelsea and England midfielder Lampard was having none of it when the topic came up on Amazon Prime’s Champions League coverage this evening.

Asked if Gabriel and Saliba were comparable to Terry and Carvalho, Lampard replied: “No, not yet.”

‘If they go and win two or three Premier Leagues and a Champions League maybe you can compare them.

‘Listen, I’m not leaving them. They’re amazing, they’re young, and they’re always growing.

‘It’s not fair to make that comparison because they have all of this in front of them. But at this point no.

‘But what they’re doing now are great things. But yeah, win something, guys, so you can fully participate in this conversation.’

Comparisons with the Premier League’s all-time greats may be premature; but Manchester United legend Ferdinand believes Gabriel and Saliba are the best in Europe based on their current form.

‘Yes definitely. I think they are. They’ve proven that over the last few seasons,” Ferdinand said on TNT Sports earlier this month.

‘They are determined. They are very difficult. They can do this in different ways. You have a great mix. Saliba is a little calmer and wants to cover up and sweep up a little.

‘Gabriel is in the foreground, he looks more like a Martin Keown type. (He is) an aggressive type of player. ‘They complement each other very well.’

Meanwhile, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is confident Gabriel and Saliba can emulate some of the legendary centre-back pairings in Premier League history.

‘Provided they stay together, we will eventually mention Saliba and Gabriel in the same breath as the two outstanding partnerships of my generation; Carragher wrote about Chelsea’s John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho and Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in a recent column. Telegram.

‘Arsenal need to win the Premier League or Champions League for the duo to be in the hall of fame, but they are making huge progress.’
