Thirteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history by scoring the fastest ever century by an Indian in Under-19 Tests, reaching the milestone in just 58 balls against Australia Under-19 at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on Monday.

Vaibhav declared himself in style by displaying extraordinary power and skill in his first red-ball match with the India Under-19 team.

His magnificent 58-ball century was the second fastest in Under-19 Test history, falling behind Moeen Ali’s 56-ball century in 2005. Yes, that is Moeen Ali.

Eventually falling for 104 runs in 62 deliveries, he was run out as he continued his aggressive attack, as India made an impressive response to Australia’s first-innings total of 293.

Vaibhav’s attacking batting style has been compared to Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan for his unique batting and shooting ability.

Vaibhav hit the headlines when he debuted for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy when he was just 12 years old and became one of the youngest players to do so, leaving behind the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh.

He has signaled early promise by scoring 31 runs in two first-class matches against Mumbai and Chhattisgarh in 2024.

Vaibhav had made a name for himself in age-group cricket before his Ranji Trophy debut. He represented India B Under-19 in the Quadrangular Under-19 series and amassed 177 runs across six innings, including two half-centuries.

Vinoo further impressed in the Mankad Trophy, becoming the eighth leading scorer with 393 runs in five matches at an average of 78.60.

Vaibhav’s journey began at the age of nine under the guidance of his father Sanjeev Suryavanshi, whose passion for the game was a major driving force.
