owned by Microsoft announced Expanding Bing’s productive search capabilities.

The update focuses on handling complex, informative queries.

Bing offers examples like “how to effectively run one-on-one” and “how to remove background noise from my podcast recordings.”

Searchers in the United States can access the new features by typing “Bing productive search” into the search bar. This will present a carousel of sample queries.

Beta Release and Potential Challenges

It is worth noting that this feature is in beta phase.

Bing acknowledges that you may experience longer loading times as the system works to ensure accuracy and relevancy.

The announcement is as follows:

“While we’re excited to give you this opportunity to explore productive search firsthand, this experience is still available in beta. While we work to ensure that productive search results are displayed when we are confident of their accuracy and relevance and make sense for the given query, you may notice some loading time. You will typically see productive search results for informative and complex queries, and this will be indicated by the sentence “Results enhanced by Bing productive search…” at the bottom of the search box.

This is the waiting screen that appears after you click “Deep search”.

In practice, I found that the wait was long and sometimes searches failed before completion.

The ideal way to take advantage of this search experience is to type “Bing productive search” into the search bar and then click on the suggestions.

Potential Impact

Bing’s prolific search results include citations and links to original sources.

This approach is intended to drive traffic to publishers, but it is not yet known how effective this will be in practice.

Bing encourages users to give feedback on the new feature using the likes/dislikes icons or the dedicated feedback button.

Looking Forward

This development comes as search engines increasingly use artificial intelligence to improve their capabilities.

While Bing is rolling out this expanded productive search feature, keep in mind that the technology is still in beta, so performance and accuracy may vary.
