Crews battle truck fire east of Sweet Home

SWEET HOME, Oregon — Sweet Home Fire was dispatched to a truck fire near Milepost 20 on Highway 20, east of Sweet Home. This incident was at 11:15 a.m. on Monday.

Initial reports say the incident involved a semi-truck carrying hay, later revealed to be grass seed.

While the driver was rescued, there were no injuries.

Sweet Home Fire was the first to respond and immediately called ODF for assistance.

The first to arrive was the battalion chief, who found the eastbound truck and shut down the trailer, with the rear half of the trailer engulfed in flames.

State police were called to assist with traffic control.

An additional engine was brought in from Lebanon Fire and a water tender from Brownsville.

11 firefighters intervened in the incident.

Sweet Home Fire says these incidents were physically demanding as crews had to remove associated materials to ensure complete extinguishment of the fire.
