2 “brute” explosives found at Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa

Two concealed explosive devices were found at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday and Monday, prompting partial evacuations, police said Monday.

The devices were disabled and removed from the building, the Seminole Police Department said in a statement.

The first “crude hidden device with firework components” was found in the men’s restroom next to the casino shortly before midnight Sunday night. Police said the device was “quickly disabled with the cooperation and support of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad.” “A portion of the casino was immediately evacuated and reopened at approximately 3 a.m. after the device was disabled and removed.”

The Seminole Police Department said a second hidden explosive was found in the men’s restroom on the casino’s mezzanine shortly after noon Monday during an investigation prompted by the first explosive. The mezzanine area was evacuated and the second device was also disabled and removed with the assistance of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad.

The Seminole Police Department said it is working with the FBI and reviewing surveillance video as part of the ongoing investigation.

All areas of the casino have reopened, police said Monday.
