The Shanghai Masters is the penultimate ATP 1000 event on the calendar as players look to round out their points ahead of the ATP Finals in November.

Two Grand Slam victories, a semi-final and a place in the quarter-finals in 2024 will ensure Jannik Sinner ends the year as No. 1, no matter how the next few weeks go.

But while the Italian will try to gallop ahead of the others, those behind him will be determined to drag him towards the pack.

A spectacular field will head to Shanghai for this week’s tournament and Sinner will be joined by Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.

Nine of the top 10 men’s players will play, but world number 8 and reigning champion Hubert Hurkacz will not play due to a knee injury. Britain’s Jack Draper also withdrew from the competition after reaching a career-high 20th place last week.

The tournament is starting Wednesday 2 October 2024 and will continue until the final Sunday, October 13, 2024.
