NASS releases 2022 Census of Agriculture Web Maps application | News, Sports, Jobs

HARRISBURG — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has launched a collection of interactive maps to allow data users to access important Census of Agriculture information. The newly designed Census of Agriculture Web Maps application offers public access to maps and accompanying data to help visualize, download and analyze Census of Agriculture data at the county level. The app brings together maps and statistics from the 2022 Census of Agriculture into five broad categories (plants and vegetation, economy, farms, livestock and animals, and producers) and related subcategories.

“NASS is excited to bring to the public customizable, interactive and accessible ways to work with extensive Census of Agriculture data.” said Kevin Pautler, Acting Director of the Northeast Region Field Office. “The Ag Census Web Maps app allows users to visualize the state of American agriculture in a way that no other Census of Agriculture product can.”

The Ag Census Web Maps user can: select a map to display from any of the general categories and relevant subcategories; create maps that show the change in a single data element across the country (for example, the average value of agricultural products sold per farm); select a county and view and download the county’s data for a general category; Download the US county-level dataset of mapped values for all categories and more. The resulting products provide producers, agribusinesses, policymakers, community planners, and the general public with easy access to factors affecting agriculture and producers in more than 3,000 counties across the country.

NASS also launched a number of new products on its website related to the 2022 census: Market Value of Agricultural Products Ranking; State and County Profiles; Congressional District Profiles and Rankings; Race, Ethnicity and Gender Profiles; Basins report; and the American Indian Reservation Report. Additionally, 2022 Puerto Rico Census of Agriculture data was released on July 18 and can be viewed on NASS’s ag census webpage.

Upcoming census releases include Specialty Crops on October 17 and ZIP Code Tables on November 7. Other products to be released this fall include additional census Highlights publications available on the NASS website at www.nass.usda.gov/Publications. /Highlights. Agriculture Census Highlights cover topics like producer demographics, commodity characteristics and more.

The full agriculture census report, which includes more than 6 million data points on America’s farms and ranches and the people who run them, is available at nass.usda.gov/AgCensus. Ag count data can also be found in Quick Stats, NASS’s searchable online database.

NASS is currently soliciting content change recommendations in preparation for the 2027 Census of Agriculture and is asking new producers who did not receive the 2022 Census of Agriculture survey last year to register to take part in future censuses and surveys. Both forms can be found at nass.usda.gov.
