HomePod Software 18 Now Available

Apple Releases HomePod Software 18 on MondayHome PagePod‌ And HomePod miniNew software, iOS 18The new software adds the option to manually select a Home Hub instead of having HomeKit automatically select one, which should make things easier for users with multiple HomePod and Apple TV models.

The new SharePlay feature lets multiple people share control of songs played on ‌HomePod‌ via Apple Music, adding songs to a playlist and controlling playback by simply holding one iPhone close to another ‌iPhone‌.

AirPlay now features Spatial Audio, providing an immersive audio experience with Dolby Atmos when using ‌AirPlay‌ to stream audio from ‌iPhone‌ or iPad to ‌HomePod‌.

Apple’s release notes:

Software version 18 introduces SharePlay so you can share control of your Apple Music playlist on your iPhone or iPad, and guests can contribute to what’s playing on HomePod. This update also includes bug fixes and stability improvements.

How to Update HomePod Software

Your HomePod or HomePod mini will update automatically, but you can also update your device manually by doing the following:

  1. Open House APPLICATION.
  2. Tap the icon that looks like three dots in the top right corner.
  3. Tap on “Home Page Settings.”
  4. Scroll down “Software Update.”
  5. Faucet “Software Update” to see if there are any updates.
  6. When you tap “”Software Update”, you’ll see the current version of the ‌HomePod‌ software installed on your HomePod or HomePod mini. You can also turn off automatic updates if you want.
  7. If an update is available, tap “Install” to update your ‌HomePod‌. If you have more than one HomePod or HomePod mini in your home, each will be updated at the same time through this software update feature.
  8. A white rotating light will appear on HomePod while it’s updating. The update may take a while. Make sure your HomePod is not stuck updating.
