What is the story?

Nathan LyonOne of the well-known names of modern cricket, he has openly spoken about the difficulties he faces due to constant comparisons with the late cricketer. Shane Warne.

Despite taking 530 wickets in 129 Test matches for Australia, Lyon admitted he was overshadowed by the legacy of the legendary leg-spinner.

He stated that the early days of his career were particularly difficult due to intense criticism from both the media and Australian cricket fans.

Lyon acknowledge Warne’s unique talent and legacy

In a chat Sky CricketAcknowledging Warne’s unique talent, Lyon said repeating his achievements would be an impossible task.

The off-spinner referred to Warne as “a player of the generation” and “the best player to have ever played the game”.

Despite all this pressure, Lyon’s primary goal was to make his family and Warne proud by doing his best on the field.

Lyon’s journey to embrace oppression as privilege

Lyon said Warne’s legacy overshadowed his own despite representing Australia for a decade.

But now he has learned to see this pressure as a privilege and can easily face these comparisons.

“A lot of us felt the pressure of Shane Warne’s shadow… and it probably took me five, six, seven years to realise that pressure is a privilege,” Lyon said.

It is noteworthy that Warne finished his career with 708 Test wickets at an average of 25.41.

Here are the general statistics

As we mentioned above, Lyon took 530 wickets in 129 Tests and performed at an average of 30.28.

He took 24 Test fifers and a 10-wicket haul in five matches.

Lyon became the seventh highest wicket-taker in Tests, surpassing Courtney Walsh (519) earlier this year.

Among off-spin bowlers, only Sri Lanka legend Muthiah Muralidaran (800) has more wickets in the Test format.
