Irish St Leger result: Kyprios secures victory over Vauban at Curragh

Scorthy Champ had previously pulled off a surprise victory in the National Stakes at the Curragh, finishing ahead of the previously unbeaten Henri Matisse.

Henri Matisse, who has won three previous races for Aidan O’Brien, was the 5-6 favourite to claim his fourth consecutive win on his Group One debut.

However, Scorthy Champ, who started with a win at Leopardstown in May and is trained by Joseph O’Brien, finished three quarter lengths ahead of the favourite.

Ridden by Dylan Browne McMonagle, 12-1 Scorthy Champ took the lead and cruised to victory in a straight line.

Hugo Palmer’s Seagulls Eleven came in third.
