Recommendations for leagues of all sizes with 30-50% roster capacity on Yahoo!

Matt Boyd, Cleveland Guardians (50% rostered)

Boyd has been better than expected with two wins and 35 strikeouts in 33 innings pitched for the Cleveland Guardians in six starts. He has eight, six, and nine strikeouts in his last three starts. Boyd looks like he can be relied upon to provide quality innings for your rotation as we approach the end of most fantasy seasons.

Nick Martinez, Cincinnati Reds (34% on roster)

Martinez will generally give you worry-free innings and is currently a near free agent in most leagues. He was strong in September, with two wins and 12 strikeouts in 12 innings, a 0.71 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP.

Kyle Gibson, St. Louis Cardinals (34% on roster)

Gibson is a veteran who has had a run of good and bad. He has pitched in the sixth inning in his last three starts, allowing 16 strikeouts in the process. He will face the Pittsburgh Pirates next week. Gibson has eight wins with 144 strikeouts in 159 innings, a 4.11 ERA, and a 1.33 WHIP. It was a quietly average season, and one that could help you in most leagues.

Frankie Montas, Milwaukee Brewers (30% roster)

Montas has been hit-or-miss since his trade to Milwaukee, but I also think he’s a good guy to plug into. His two starts in September were also solid: both six innings, one 10 strikeouts and one eight strikeouts. The best news? Four total hits and only three runs. Montas looks like a guy who could help you in your playoff run. Montas has been:

DJ Herz, Washington Nationals (29% on roster)

Herz is a high-risk, high-reward guy this season. But he was very good in August and September. No wins but everything else; in his last 39 innings, Herz has 45 strikeouts and a 2.53 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP.

These are very useful numbers in a playoff series and very few leagues have had them. Change that this weekend. If you need more information, check out the box below and see all that beautiful blood red color.

Kumar Rocker, Texas Rangers (29% on roster)

Rocker looked the part in his Rangers debut and should make a few more starts as the season winds down. His innings may be limited, but he could be worth the risk, especially if you need strikeouts.

The rookie went four innings and struck out seven batters in his first game, allowing just one home run in that start. If you’re looking for some upside, even in limited innings, Rocker could be the guy for you.

Dean Kremer, Baltimore Orioles (27% rostered)

Kremer is almost always on the waiver list, and I always wonder if he should be. Every time I look at him, he seems to be pitching well. In his last two starts, Kremer has thrown 13 total innings and allowed only one earned run. He has 14 strikeouts in those innings, and he looks like a guy Baltimore can trust as they compete for a playoff spot.

If the Orioles trust him, maybe you should too. I think Kremer is consistently underrated and could be valuable to you down the road.

Reid Detmers, Los Angeles Angels (22% rostered)

Detmers pitched in the minor leagues for most of the year but returned to the big leagues and pitched well for Los Angeles. People will look at all of his season work, which is a mistake right now. Since he was recalled. Detmers has two starts, 18 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched, and a 3.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP.

Overall, those odds numbers for the season are 5.64 and 1.40. We’re not concerned with that right now; we’re just trying to put together the best product that will get us closer to that elusive championship. Detmers has three above-average major league offers; see below.
