Google’s virtual try-on tool adds new clothes for your fit check

In summary;

  • Google’s virtual try-on feature now supports women’s dresses from many brands.
  • The feature uses generative AI to create an image of a model wearing the dress.
  • By offering support for different model options, it allows you to see how which dress will look on someone with a similar body type.

Google introduced a new AI-powered shopping tool in Search last year that allowed users to see how a particular garment would look on a person with their body type. virtual trial feature The app, which supports women’s upper clothing products from many brands, is now being expanded by Google to support dresses as well.

Shoppers in the US will now see a “try on” badge when searching for dresses on Google. Selecting a dress with the badge will open the virtual try-on UI, which features a carousel of styles ranging from sizes XXS-XXXL. Users can then choose the style that most closely matches their body type to get a better idea of how the dress will look before ordering.

Google says it had to overcome multiple challenges to add support for dresses. Dresses are “often more elaborate in drape, silhouette, length, or shape than a simple top, and include everything from midi-length halter tops to mini bottoms to maxi drop waists and everything in between.”

Researchers at Google developed a stepwise training strategy to accurately reproduce fine details like pleats and prints in previews. They also developed a new technique called VTO-UNet Diffusion Transformer (VTO-UDiT) that “isolates and preserves important features of a person” in the generated image. You can check out the resulting images yourself by searching for dresses from brands like Simkhai, Boden, Staud, Sandro, and Maje on Google.
