Mono man arrested after shoplifting altercation

Your Orangeville Police Service has arrested and charged a 28-year-old Mono man with several criminal offences after being caught shoplifting at Walmart Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday, February 9, 2020, at approximately 5:00 p.m. a 28-year-old Mono man was arrested by Loss Prevention Officers after leaving Walmart with merchandise that had not been paid for. The accused man resisted the arrest and brandished a knife. The accused man was eventually subdued by the Loss Prevention Officers with the assistance of members of the public. The altercation resulted in one of the Loss Prevention Officers receiving a laceration to his right hand requiring approximately ten sutures to close.

Brett Norman Hutchinson, 28, of Mono, was taken into custody and turned over to Orangeville Police officers. He is charged with Assault with a Weapon Causing Bodily harm, Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, Weapons dangerous, Theft Under $5000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

The accused man was held in custody pending a bail hearing regarding the allegations.
