Theft from hardware store leads to several charges including impaired driving
Your Orangeville Police Service has arrested and charged a 38-year-old Bolton man with several criminal charges following an incident at Home Hardware Friday morning.
On Friday, September 6, 2019, at approximately 8:15 a.m., police attended Orangeville Home Hardware at 60 Fourth Avenue, regarding a disturbance between the owner and a customer. The customer left the store prior to police arriving. Police learned that the customer left the store without paying for two saw blades. He then drove away in his friend’s vehicle without permission, leaving the friend stranded at the store.
The ensuing investigation led police to the rear of a retail plaza at 88 First Street. The suspect was located in the vehicle that he left Home Hardware in approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes earlier.
Shane McMullan, 38, of Bolton, was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Operating a Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol or Drugs, Possession of Heroin, Take Motor vehicle Without Consent and Driving While Under Suspension.
The accused was subsequently released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Orangeville on September 24, 2019 to answer to the allegations.
