Mandatory alcohol screening for drivers now in effect

Orangeville Police Service officers now have another enforcement tool to help reduce impaired driving.

Today, Tuesday, December 18, 2018, new legislation has come into effect authorizing police officers across Canada to demand a breath sample from any driver lawfully stopped by police. This new change in law will greatly increase the number of drivers screened for impairment, potentially resulting in more impaired drivers being detected and charged accordingly.

“We welcome this change in legislation”, said Chief Wayne Kalinski. “The message should be clear. Please don’t drink and drive”.
