Police car forced off roadway during attempt to stop vehicle

An Orangeville Police Constable was forced off the road while attempting to stop a vehicle on John Street north of Townline Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at approximately 8:40pm, officers received a report of a theft from a Fifth Avenue business, with suspects who fled the scene in a small U-Haul truck. A witness was following the truck while providing information to Orangeville Police.

Officers located the truck on John Street and attempted to make a traffic stop. The truck was operating in an erratic manner and forced an Orangeville Police patrol car off of the roadway. The police car struck a fence and pergola at a John Street business. The officer received minor injuries. The incident caused damage to the police vehicle and the property that was struck. The suspect vehicle fled the scene, northbound on John Street.

One female was arrested regarding the initial theft incident. Nekime Lidstone, 21, of Waterloo, is charged with Theft Under $5000 and four counts of Breach of Probation. The accused female was held in custody pending a bail hearing regarding the allegations.
