Careless Driving charge issued after vehicle crashes into house

The Orangeville Police Service has charged a 63-year-old female with Careless Driving after her vehicle struck a house on First Street yesterday morning.

On Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at approximately 11:30am, a 63-year-old female was exiting from a townhouse complex at 60 First Street. The female engaged the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal on her 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. As a result, the vehicle drove forward at a high rate of speed, crossing First Street and striking a residence on the east side of the street.

Almost the entire vehicle entered the house and the driver had to be extricated through the rear hatch window. The female was transported to hospital with minor leg injuries. There were no other injuries as a result of this incident.

The crash caused extensive damage to the vehicle and the house. The Town of Orangeville Building Department deemed the residence unsafe until it is able to be made structurally sound for habitation.
