Altercation on Broadway leads to weapons charges
Your Orangeville Police Service has arrested and charged a 20-year-old Orangeville man after an altercation involving the man and a food vendor on Broadway, Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday, July 8, 2017, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a male became involved in a dispute with a female food vendor at the corner of Broadway and Second Street. The male left the area but returned minutes later brandishing a knife towards the female and another male. Witnesses intervened by tackling the male to the ground, subduing him until police arrived.
As a result of the investigation police arrested the male and seized the knife.
Johnathan Underwood, 20, of Orangeville, was charged two counts of Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. The accused male was taken into custody and transported to Headwaters Health Care Centre, where he was treated for a minor injuries he received when he was tackled by citizens.
There were no further injuries as a result of this incident.
The accused man was held in custody pending a bail hearing regarding the allegations. He was later released by the court and is scheduled to appear again in court in Orangeville on August 3, 2017.
